On Wednesday, the Pentagon will remove Trump-era policies that largely ban transgender people from serving in the military, and will issue new rules that give them greater access to health care and aid with gender transition, officials said.

The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that the administration's new regulations allow transgender people who meet military criteria to openly recruit and serve in their own designated gender and will be able to obtain the necessary medical care related to the move that is authorized by law. To discuss internal decisions that have not yet been announced.

The changes come after a two-month Pentagon review aimed at developing new policy guidelines, which President Joe Biden announced just days after he took office in January.
