Sacramento shooting was gang gunfight, police say

According to Sacramento police, at least five shooters from rival gangs were involved in the mass shooting outside bars just blocks from California's Capitol last weekend, which left six dead and 12 wounded.

Several gunmen were identified by police, but there could have been more. The only suspects arrested in relation to the shooting were two brothers, both wounded by gunfire, and, so far, they have only been charged with firearm possession.

Two gangs were involved, police said. They refused to name the gangs or give details about any suspects.

Until Wednesday’s announcement, police had been silent on what led to the shooting that erupted early Sunday as bars were letting out. Rapid-fire bursts of over 100 gunshots echoed through the streets as terrified patrons ran for their lives and others were hit by bullets.
