Russian court dismisses Meta's appeal over 'extremist activity' tag

As a result of the deployment of tens of thousands of Russian troops into Ukraine on Feb. 24, Russia restricted access to Meta's Facebook and Instagram platforms, as well as Twitter, leading to criticism of a move to exert more control over information.

The Russian government originally blocked Facebook for restricting access to Russian media, while Instagram was targeted after Meta said it would allow Russia's troops in Ukraine to post messages urging violence against Russian President Vladimir Putin.

It was reported by TASS that the Moscow court rejected Meta Platforms Inc's appeal after it was found guilty of "extremist activity" in Russia.
