House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said on Wednesday that he will not participate with the Jan. 6 panel investigating the Capitol security breach, accusing it of "abuse of authority."
The House Select Committee had urged the California Republican to send over the material, including concerning former President Donald Trump's mental condition before and after the events of January 6 last year, only hours before.
“As a representative and the leader of the minority party, it is with neither regret nor satisfaction that I have concluded to not participate with this select committee’s abuse of power that stains this institution today and will harm it going forward,” Kevin McCarthy said in a statement.
