In a clear sign of growing frustration with the Biden administration, a recent New York Times/Siena College poll reveals that a significant majority of likely voters blame Vice President Kamala Harris for the ongoing border crisis. The poll highlights that 63% of voters hold Harris responsible for the record levels of illegal immigration at the United States-Mexico border over the past three and a half years.
This comes after President Joe Biden appointed Harris in April 2021 to lead efforts to address the surge in illegal immigration. Since then, Harris has been dubbed the “border czar,” a role from which she has attempted to distance herself as the crisis has worsened. However, voters are not buying it. Only 16% of likely voters believe Harris bears “no blame at all” for the situation at the border, a clear indicator that Americans are holding the administration accountable.
This is especially significant for evangelical Christians and conservative voters, as the immigration crisis reflects a deeper issue: the abandonment of American values, laws, and the rule of order. Our nation, founded on the principles of law and justice, has been undermined by policies that favor lawlessness at the border, threatening the safety and security of all Americans.
The poll shows that swing voters—a key demographic in any election—are also deeply concerned. An overwhelming 63% of swing voters blame Harris for the crisis, further evidence that the Biden-Harris administration has failed to convince the electorate that they can handle this critical issue.
Voters are looking for strong leadership, and when asked who they trust more on immigration, the majority favored former President Donald Trump. Fifty-three percent of likely voters believe Trump is the better candidate to handle immigration issues, while only 43% favor Harris. Among swing voters, Trump holds a similar 53% to 43% advantage.
Why the preference for Trump? The answer is simple: President Trump has consistently stood for law and order, securing our borders, and protecting American workers. During his presidency, Trump campaigned on and implemented policies focused on mass deportations of illegal immigrants, cracking down on border security, and ensuring that the American labor market benefits citizens—not foreign workers. This stands in stark contrast to the Biden-Harris immigration policies, which have allowed nearly 7 million migrants to enter the U.S. since taking office and prioritized foreign workers over American citizens.
As evangelical Christians, we understand the importance of protecting nation’s sovereignty and upholding the rule of law. Scripture calls for governments to maintain order, and that includes securing our borders. Trump’s firm stance on immigration reflects a commitment to not only national security but to protecting the God-given rights and livelihoods of American citizens.
The Biden-Harris administration has failed to stem the tide of illegal immigration, leading to chaos at the border and a weakening of America’s economic and social fabric. In contrast, Donald Trump has proven that he can restore order and protect nation. For voters who care about the future of our country—especially those of us who seek to uphold Christian values—Trump’s leadership on immigration is the clear choice.
As we look to the 2024 election, it is more evident than ever that America needs a leader who will prioritize the safety, security, and prosperity of its people. Donald Trump’s commitment to securing the border and putting Americans first offers hope for a nation that has been plagued by the failures of the Biden-Harris administration. The majority of voters see it, and come November, we believe the rest of the nation will too.
